Who are the Eco Kids?

Who are we?
The Eco Kids are a group of Arahoe School children formed to help look after the environment. We are the kaitiaki of the school.

Who is in the group?
The Eco Kids is open across the school to Years 2-6.

What do we do?
We do:
planting
weeding
pruning
watering
fertilising
harvesting
cooking ingredients
creating scarecrows and bird feeders
monitoring electricity use by turning lights and devices off when leaving the classroom

While the Eco Kids do the above activities, they learn about native plants and animals, our carbon footprint, gardening and the balance of ecosystems.

When is it?
Eco Kids meet every Tuesday at lunchtime in Room 24 with Mrs Turner, Mrs Tuck and Mr B, the groundsman.

How do I join?
Tell your teacher that you would like to join the Eco Kids. A good idea is to tell your teacher about what you do at home to support the environment (e.g. gardening, recycling, reusing materials, composting). We want kids who are keen!

Rewards
The biggest reward for the Eco Kids is the satisfaction of seeing more native birds around and gardens harvested into something delicious.  At the end of each term, the Eco Kids will take part in a treat activity - for all their hard work. Ka pai tamariki!
